Sophos update information

What to do if your Sophos license has expired ...

You have received the message "Your Sophos Endpoint license has expired." received? Then please note whether your computer is centrally managed or not:

  1. Centrally managed (by the ITMC or by your IT services in the faculty or institution)
Contact your IT services or the ITMC.
  2. Not centrally managed
If you want to stay with Sophos, you will need the update, which you must now manually download and install once (see below).

If you want to use Microsoft Defender as your anti-virus program on your Windows computer after your Sophos license expires, uninstall the Sophos virus scanner. Microsoft Defender will then be automatically reactivated.

Downloading and installing the update

Business computers:

Background: The previous Sophos product has been phased out and the successor version is now managed in the Sophos Central cloud.

To update manually for business computers, go to the page

https://service.tu-dortmund.de/en/group/intra/sophos

select your faculty or institution and open the menu. There you will be offered a client for Windows (10 and 11, 7 is no longer supported) and MacOS for download.

You can install the software over the old version, a previous uninstallation is not necessary.

Only for MacOS:
Please note that for MacOS the correct file access rights are assigned during installation (do not click on "OK" but on "Open System Preferences Security". Under "Security and privacy" also grant Sophos "Full disk access").

Private computers:

To protect your private devices with Sophos, we offer you as a member or member of the TU the use of the extended Sophos Home license for up to 10 devices. The only requirement is a TU mail address. To do this, you can register here and download the Sophos client:
