Team "Facility"
We in the team "Facility" ensure the ongoing operation of the DataCenter of the ITMC.
DataCenter Campus North
The DataCenter in Otto-Hahn-Strasse on the North Campus is the heart of university housing, IT routing, high-performance computing, virtualization, network services. From here, data services are distributed throughout the university.
Thanks to the DataCenter and the space it provides for server housing, all university faculties and institutions can house their servers in one central location. The DataCenter offers the best conditions, such as redundant data network connection, UPS and NEA secured power supply as well as reliable air conditioning with cold aisle containment of the server racks.
Our "Facility" team not only acts as planners for the DataCenter's resources, but also as an interface between the ITMC, the TU's housing customers and the university's technical operations.
DataCenter Campus South
We are also responsible for the machine hall as a redundant computer location on the South Campus. This smaller DataCenter is currently in a modernization phase. After this phase, it will serve the TU as an equivalent and redundant location for service hardware that is independent of power and air conditioning.
Monitoring of IT systems
Monitoring - i.e., the supervision of IT systems - is another major field of work and topic for us. On the one hand, all infrastructural parameters of a DataCenter have to be monitored, on the other hand, however, also the infrastructure with which the ITMC provides various services to the students and employees. The management of this monitoring is a central task in our activities, because the ITMC operates about 700 servers and VMs, which are used to provide the various services.
