Microsoft Outlook app lock for iOS and Android
The widely used Outlook app for iOS and Android from Microsoft retrieves your official mail from our mail server via the Microsoft cloud if a TU Exchange account is configured. Only if mail retrieval is configured via an IMAP account (without calendar functions), this is not the case. This means that Microsoft cloud services will know your TU password after using this app, and official mail content may be cached in the Microsoft cloud for the duration of the connection or longer. You and we have no control over this. There is no direct secured communication between the Outlook app for iOS and Android on your smartphone and the TU Dortmund mail server.
In the IT security concept of TU-Dortmund, points 3.4.2 and 3.4.3 prohibit the disclosure of the TU password to third parties.
Therefore, we will block the retrieval of mails via the Outlook app from 08/15/2023.
Please update your mobile mail retrieval configuration. For iOS, we recommend using the pre-installed Apple mail app. For Android, the app recommendation depends on the device manufacturer.
For more details, please refer to the configuration help in the ServicePortal.
If your business smartphone is managed via TU's Mobile Device Management, no action is required on your part.
We strongly recommend that you also change the TU password in the ServicePortal after reconfiguration if you have ever used the Outlook app from Microsoft with the official account.
