Introduction of two-factor authentication (2FA) for students

In order to further strengthen IT security at TU Dortmund University and to protect your personal data in the best possible way, the IT & Media Center (ITMC) is introducing mandatory two-factor authentication (2FA) throughout the university. This measure supplements the usual login, e.g. for Moodle and other IT services, with an additional security factor and makes unauthorized access considerably more difficult.

This second factor is a six-digit numerical code that is generated in an additional app. You enter this code in addition to your password when logging in.

 

In the period from 1.2.2026 to 31.05.2026, students can optionally register for 2FA.

From 1.6.2026, registration and use of the second factor is mandatory for all students.

 

The registration of the second factor takes place online as part of the usual login to the central login server of TU Dortmund University, for example when logging in to Moodle. You can view the necessary steps for registration and use in advance under this link in the service portal: https: //service.tu-dortmund.de/mfa-sso
